In Colonial Times, the Keeping Room was the most important room in the house. It was a large room that contained a fireplace and hearth, where everything took place from cooking, eating meals together and family entertainment like telling stories around the fire.
The Keeping Room Table allows the meal to take place and when the meal is over, the table tops flips out of the way and exposes a bench for story time. In addition, the bench also opens where there is space to store fresh linens for each meal.
